Reader's Journal #24 2-20-12 Historical Fiction

    Dear World War Veterans,

I have just finished reading Army Boys on German Soil/Our Dough Boys Quelling the Mobs. There are four main characters. Frank, Tom, Bart, and Billy. Frank is the commander of the group. He has a quick mind and fast reflexes. Tom is a fearless soldier. Bart and Billy are brave and all of them are good companions.
One night when the four boys were outside, shots were fired at them. The ducked and saw people going into an ally. They followed, but when they went in they saw none there. One of them turned on a flashlight and shots started firing at them. They ducked and went back to base. They told their Colonel about what happened. Frank wanted to investigate the next day in the morning, but was but on a mission to go get supplies with the 37th.
They went the next day. When they were going up a mountain, it was heavily snowing and to make it worse, Bart fell and sprained his ankle. The Lieutenant said catch up with him later. When they continued they lost there way and ended up at a castle. They rested there with Bart at watch. He heard German voices and woke up his friends. Frank heard that they were making a plan to get back control of the camp the boys were. They arrested them and took their firearms which they were not supposed to have. They left the next day only to find a German squad requesting the hostages. They said no, captured a soldier, and started a firefight. More Germans came in, but the 37th came out the trees and saved the boys. They were greeted with warm faces at the camp.
They returned to hostages to the base, but on the way met on of their friends. A pilot named Dick Lever. They said hi and continued. They when reached the base Frank and Bert investigated the ally. They found a trapdoor in the floor, but could not investigate any further because there was a fire nearby and people would see them. They wanted to see it the next day but there were drills and new regulations. The Lieutenant said they were going to Berlin, and while sweeping the houses Tom got captured. They returned back only three people. When they went to the ally again, they went down the trap door and found many rats attacking them. They retreated up the ladder on the the surface.
Later, they found a American Prison camp and found Tom there. They were going to execute them and told the to dig their own graves. Tom's hands were tired and they cut the string to make him shovel. That was a bad choice because once he got the shovel he hit one of the soldiers then the other. They other prisoners joined in, but the 37th came in guns ablaze. The Germans retreated and Tom was with his comrades again.
When Frank had time he went down the trapdoor again and found a German doctor who hated the Americans. He read the newspaper then threw it on the floor. In the small room had many veils of medicine. The newspaper's headline said mysterious disease kills more Americans. He gets his friends and they told the Lieutenant. H gathered men and place two at the entrance of the ally. The rest went down the trapdoor and found even more Germans. The doctor laughing and boasting that he killed so many Americans, and is planning to kill more. The soldiers burst into the room and arrested everyone.
Later the treaty was signed that ended WWI.
