Reader Journal #16

    Dear Jacob,

I read the Hound of the Far Side by Gary Larson. This book is or my humor book and is mostly funny pictures with captions. I will try to find the pictures online and post them onto the blog post. There are many the far side books by Gary Larson. The first page that I want to talk about is the first page. It has an airplane and two pilots inside the cockpit. The one to the left says we are entering some turbulence and says stay in you seat while the other pilot smiles. Then they start turning the yolk ( controller) like they are in a game trying to get away from the cops in a car and start laughing. Then the pilot says oh, there is more turbulence and the other one once again smiles happily. I couldn't find a picture for this page and can't take a picture and put it on. That will be copy write.
The next page I want to talk about is on page 43. The are some porcupines with a sandwich in the middle. The funny part is that there is a porcupine upside down on the sandwich and has a blank expression on its face. I don't know why this is funny to me. I can't find a picture for this either.
The last page I want to talk about is page 88, the picture on the right. There is a road with a starting line and a truck in the distance. At the starting line there is a flat turtle and rabbit. On the side of the road there are animals looking at the turtle and rabbit with a blank look on their face. I guess the tortoise and rabbit were having a rematch but seemed to have failed at it. I can't find a picture for this page either.
Thank you for reading my blog. Sorry for having no pictures, but I hope I typed with enough detail to let you imagine the pictures.

                                                                           Your friend,

Reader's Journal #15 12-13-11

    Dear  Lucky,

I have finished reading the book Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. This is my fantasy book.  One day Uncle Vernon went to work and noticed many strange things like people in weird wardrobe, a cat sitting very still reading a map and road sign, shooting stars on the news, and owls flying on the news, too. His family didn't like anything abnormal.
The cat waited on a fence when Uncle Vernon came back. The cat had a pattern design on its eye. When it was midnight a person called Albus Dumbledore. When he saw the cat he chuckled, and he took out a lighter looking device and clicked it. When he did a street light went out. He did this until the street was in darkness. He walked to the cat, but the cat wasn't their but a women. Albus Dumbledore, greeted Professor McGonagall. After a while, a half giant named Hagrid came. They left a baby named Harry Potter who just survived a dark wizard and serial killer, Voldemort. The next morning Uncle Vernon's family found him on their door steps. They raised him in misery until he was ten. He got a letter one day during summer. It was Harry's first letter. When they saw this they ripped up the letter and made Harry go to the upstairs room as his bedroom(it used to be a cupboard under a stairway). When he got the letter again and again, they have moved to and hotel and now a little shack in the middle on the ocean. That midnight he heard a bang and Hagrid came in. Harry was confused and was taken away with him. He was happy that he was away from the Dursleys.
He went to Diagon Alley, a wizard shopping area. He bought all he needed for Hogwarts, his new school. It was the most famous wizarding school in Great Britain. When the day came to go, he got confused on how to get to platform nine and three quarters. he found out that he had to walk through the barrier. He got on the train and made a new friend, Ron. When at Hogwarts, he found out the he was good at Quidditch, a sport on flying brooms. He hated a teacher, Professor Snape. He  also made a new friend, Hermione. They accidentally went into a restricted room, and found a Cerberus in the room.
They soon found out that there was a stone inside called the Sorcerer's Stone and that it could make you immortal. They thought Professor Snape or Voldemort was going to steal the stone. Voldemort could use the stone for coming back to life. He uses people as hosts. One day, they went into the room and used music to make the Cerberus go to sleep and they went through the halls with different challenges like a chess game, getting a flying key on flying brooms sticks, and a logic game, all of them except Harry got through. Ron had to sacrifice himself during chess and Hermione went back during the logic game to go out. When Harry was in the last room he found out that it was Professor Quirrell. He was the host for Voldemort. Harry got the stone and Voldemort left Professor Quirrell to die. Harry found out this. He and his friends made their house win. What I mean by house is their group they were chosen in.
My favorite part was when Harry made his house win. That is because it was a very happy mood. My least favorite part is when Harry was abused by his family. That is because it was a sad mood. I would rate this book five out of five because it was well written, interesting, and fun to read.

Title: Animal shelter's behavior experts face life and death decisions for animals
Author:John Owens
Source: The Miami Herald
The topic of the article is animal shelter death
The main idea of the article is: That in the Anti-cruelty shelter for animals in Chicago faces life or death decisions for animals. This is stated.
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform the reader about what the animal shelter has to do to check the animals behavior.
The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective (not biased) because it doesn't talk about any of their opinions.
The pattern of organization of the article is flashback.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is because it talks about what they did to an animal  then what they are doing to animals now.
The text features included in the article are: Quotes, and they help by expressing the animal shelter employees. Examples, and they help by letting the reader know what they are talking about more clearly.

This article is about (a summary in your own words) dog that have to be put down just because of their behavior. Animal experts try to train them, but if they can't they have to kill the animal.
The significance (importance) of this article is that animals die just because of their behavior.
What I learned from this article is that 7,400 dogs and 11,000 cats are killed every year because of their behavior.
What I liked about this article is that it is very informative. They do this by putting an example in the beginning.
What I did not like about it is that their are no
Who should read this article and why animal owners should read this article because it is about animals in animal shelters.
This article reminds me of (text-to-self) when I had a kitty , but gave it away to a person because I didn't know how to take care of it.
(text-to-text) This reminds me of a story in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. They had to leave their dog at home but came up with the idea of letting different people bring it to them.
(text-to-world) Many animals will go through this process.
New vocabulary I learned

Reader Journal's #14 12--16-11

      Dear Julio,

I have finished the fantastic book, Eragon. The book is by Christopher Paolini. He was a bestselling author at nineteen years old. I will try to shorten the RJ because the rest of the book is 400 pages. You may not understand what I am talking about until you read my last RJ.
Continuing my last RJ, Eragon woke up in the town healers room. His went to visit his uncle, Garrow. When he saw him, he asked about his condition. The healer replied not well. A day later Garrow died. Eragon was bent on revenge when he overheard them say that. The next day he went to the leather store and stole leather even if he felt guilty about it. He put them in a treeline away from the town and went to go steal meat from the butcher, Sloan. When he came back he saw Brom, the town storyteller, waiting for him. Brom knew a lot about dragons and their history. Brom told Eragon to bring him with him. After a few declines Eragon just let him come.
They left and went for a area to camp. Brom then made a sattle for Eragon's dragon, Saphira. They went to a little town and bought horses there. They then went to various cities trying to find the Ra'zac. Brom told Eragon who killed his uncle. He told them that it was a monster called the Ra'zac. They were half bird half human. He had to know this because he was a Rider. A Rider is a person part of the Riders(notice the S). The were a group of people who had dragons and used them to keep peace. The were betrayed by one of their members and he is now king of the land.
They arrived to one village and saw that there was a massacre. All the people of the town were dead and staked in the town square. Brom saw Urgal footprints and commanded Eragon to exit the city. But before they could reach the gate, two Urgals jumped out and attacked. Eragon ran into a ally way with a dead end. He thought about the dead people in the square and there was a power in him that he wanted to force out. he pulled out his bow-and-arrow, yelled Brisngr, and fired the arrow. The arrow caught on fire and killed both Urgals. Brom told him he used magic and could have killed himself if he used too much energy. Now, on the trip Brom taught him how to use magic and the ancient language that was spoken when casting it.
They went to many places until finding a bottle of oil that burned and living organism. Brom told him that the Ra'zac usually carry this oil. When he heard this he asked where does it come from. Brom told him another island and is shipped here. Eragon then came up with the idea of looking thought the shipping records. Brom also said his friend in the city where the records are,Jeod , can help us.When they arrived, they  wen tto see Jeod. They made a plan to see the records without letting people know.
Until that day, Eragon wandered around the city. He went to the herbalist shop next door. He found out that the owner was actually a witch. She told Eragon fortune and it was good and bad. It said that a friend will betray, your life will be long( Riders will have a ling life), a friend will die, you will chose what road you will go down, but only one will lead to happiness, and you will be banished from these lands. After Eragon left he pondered these words.
When the day came to take the records, they went at night, bribed the guard, and went in. They copied everything, but they were found outside the room leaving. The guards checked the door but it was already locked because Brom used magic to lock it. They left feeling accomplished. They found out that the most likely place where the Ra'zac are is in another town farther south. Brom and Eragon went there and no sooner than a few days Eragon found the Ra'zac. He was in a hallway when he looked back and saw them. He ran because he also heard soldiers coming. He knew the soldier were with the Ra'zac. He ran all the way to where he stayed and told Brom that they had to escape the city.
They ran all the way close to the desert. They camped but the Ra'zac found them and clained them and Saphira. All of a sudden, they were being attacked by arrows. They fled but threw a knife that Brom jumped in front of the save Eragon. Eragon then fainted. He woke up seeing a stranger named Murtagh. They both wanted to kill the Ra'zac. They found refuge in a land of hills and Brom showed that he was a Rider, too. He then died after telling Eragon his name in the ancient language.
After that, they went to a place where Brom's friend stayed but Urgals attacked and Eragon was captures. He then found an elf he keeps seeing in his dreams and rescued her when Murtagh rescued them. The elf was in a coma but Eragon read her mind and found our where the Varden are. The Varden are the rebels against the Empire( Not Starwars Empire). They found them hidden in a mountain. The Elf was healed and she was the one that was thought to be killed during first chapter. Her name was Arya.
Eragon was sleeping one day but was woken up to and urgent call. He was snt to the king of Varden, Ahjiad. There was going to be an attack by the Urgals. They prepared and waited. When to attacked started, they fought gallantly. They were fighting but Eragon had to go back because they were making a tunnel to trap the troops. He went to the tunnel and saw the Shade. He read his mind which caused the Shade to feel pain but Eragon couldn't stop the flowing images and the Shade got up and sliced Eragon in the back with a sword. Eraogn fell to the floor. When the Shade was about to deliver a death blow, the roof above broke and Arya and Saphira were attacking. Eragon saw that Saphira was breathing fir her first time but the Shade was about to use magic to kill Saphira and Arya. Eragon got up yelled brisingr and stab the Shade in the back with the flaming sword. Eragon fainted after that( again).
Eragon woke up in the healers place after having a dream that had a person saying meet him where the elves are. He learned that they had won the battle and when the Shade's spirit went away the Urgal clans started fighting each other. Eragon then remembered the dream and promised that he would go to the person.
My favorite part of the book was when Eragon knew the battle was won. I liked that part because it was a great ending for the book. My least favorite part was when Brom died. It was very sad after he had been on the journey with Eragon after all those months. Hoped you liked my (very long) RJ!

RJ #13 11-28-11

     Dear Aunty Jude,

I am reading the book Eragon right now. It is a fantastic 497 page book that will keep you reading. I am not done with it right now, but I hope to be done by the end of this week. This book is by a teenager, Christopher Paolini. He has just made the fourth and last book to this series. All of them are fantasy.
The book has an mysterious beginning. It starts in a forest at night. It starts off as a shade (Not a real creature. Most of the fictional creature's names will sound weird.) is waiting to ambush two elves and another elf that was a female. She had a pouch that she constantly looked at. The shade has a few creatures called urgals(Once again, it will seem weird) to help him. Once they attack, the two elves die quickly but the female one escapes. The shade then used magic and set the surrounding area on fire. When the female comes back and tries to find to find a escape route, the shade jumps and kills her. Right before that thought, in the pouch, she took out a stone and made it teleport away with magic. The shade is mad.
One day a boy named Eragon is hunting for his family. He is fifteen years old. He has to hunt for his family in a feared mountain range called the Spine. Very few people go into the Spine. They fear this because one time the king sent a whole army of soldiers into the Spine and they never came back. Eragon was about to shoot his arrow to end a life of a deer, but suddenly, the was a huge crash and the deer fled. Eragon went to see where the sound has originated. He found a stone in a creator. Since he couldn't find food for his family, he decided to sell the stone and use the money to buy the meat him and his family. He went to the butcher, Sloan. Eragon never liked Sloan, but he still went to buy meat from him. Sloan asked him if he had money. Eragon said no and tried to explain but  Sloan said if you have no money no meat. Eragon then said he had a stone that can be substituted as money. Sloan asked where he got it then rejected it when Eragon told him. They started yelling but Sloan's daughter Katrina, a sixteen year old girl, with the town smith, Horst. Horst was a big bulky man that could intimidate many people if he wanted to. Even though he could he was nice to a lot of people except Sloan. He got the the fight to stop, and he payed for the meat Eragon needed to buy. Eragon said thank you and wanted to repay back anything he could. Once home at his uncles house with his cousin, Eragon started to explain why had had the packaged meat and how he got the stone. They said that when the traders came they would see if they could give how much money the stone is.
The family waited many days for the traders to come. That year, the traders came very late. They would come if the weather was right, as if it was not snowing too much, and if the roads were passable. When they came they were already a month or two late. The next day, the family left the house and started their journey to the town where the traders are. When they arrived, they saw that their was many people there. Eragon's uncle, Garrow, gave some money to Roran, Eragon's cousin. Roran left to do the things he wanted and Eragon and Garrow went to see a merchant who specialized in odd antiques. Once they found the merchant, Merlock, they wanted to talk to him privately, and so he brought them to inside his tent. Eragon brought out the stone and he the merchant took out some tools. One was to measure the weight, another a jeweler's glass, and the last tool was for how hard it was, a mallet and point. When he was done he said he didn't know what the stone is. He said that the stone was harder than a diamond and that it was hollow. He took out a dagger and used the flat and tapped the stone. It made a echo like a large bell. He then showed them that it did not have and scratches on it and believed that it would not break even if he used a hammer and hit it. After all of this, he did not know the price on the stone.
When everybody was back home, they went to bed. Near dawn, Eragon heard a squeaking sound. He quickly took out his dagger and looked around for a while. After a few moments, he went back to sleep. Then there was the same sound and the stone was rocking on the shelf he put in on. The stone fell and it it started squeaking and rocking more. The egg started to crack and out came a dragon. It was deep sapphire blue, the same colour as the stone, and the sized of Eragon's forearm. It has spikes going down the head to its end of the tail. The wing span was several times the size of its body. Eragon touched it,b ut he felt a shock that sent him on the floor paralyzed. It felt like hours until he could move again. He looked at the hand he touched the dragon with and he saw a white oval. He got back on his bed and the dragon started to rub against him like a cat. then Eragon felt a tingling feeling and felt hungry. He was not hungry but he knew that this feeling came from the dragon.  He got two strips of meat and cut it into little squares. When he was done feeding the dragon its belly was bulging. Eragon decided that he was not going to tell his family about the dragon until it got older. When he woke up he quickly went outside and made a tree house for the dragon. It was mostly made out of leather. Everyday Eragon went to see the dragon and feed it. It got really big, fast. It then out grown the house Eragon made for him. When Roran and Eragon went to town to get something. When Eragon and Roran were going back home Roran told Eragon the he was going to apply for a job away from here in another town. Eragon asked why and he said he wanted to marry Katrina. When it was supper, Roran told Garrow, and Gorrow was not surprised. He wanted Roran to have a wife. When Roran left, Eragon followed to say goodbye. Horst then told him to come outside and informed him that he quickly should get rid of the stone. That two mysterious people in black robes were looking for it. Instead of going home Eragon took a detour and tried to look for the robed men. He the saw them in Sloan's shop and Sloan told them everything. When they came out the shop they saw Eragon but the storyteller, Brom, came out and looked for him. When Eragon's gloves came off, Brom saw the white oval and Eragon rushed away. Eragon told Saphire, the name of his dragon( it was a girl), about the men and with Eragon on her she got mad and flew away. She flew to where Eragon found her egg and Eragon found that most of his legs' skin was peeled of from the ride. Eragon convince Sphira to leave the next day.
Once home Eragon found his home in flames he found Garrow and Saphira hoisted them up but she didn't have enough energy to go all the way to town. Eragon had to drag Garrow, but luckily Brom saw them and when he arrived Eragon fainted. That was what I read up to so far.
My favorite part of the book was when Eragon found out the stone was an egg. this is my favorite part so far because it was a suspenseful moment. My least favorite part of the book was when the house was on fire. It was a very sad moment. I would recommend this book the anybody and would rate it 5/5 stars.

RJ #12 11-21-11

     Dear Ethan,

I have finished reading the book I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, 1941 by Lauren Tarshis. This book is a memoir that Mrs. Zhrihen let me read. It is about a boy named Dave who came from New York and settled in Hawaii. His mom made them come here because she wanted Dave to get away from all the crime happening in the city.
One morning, Dave said bye to his mom going to work at the hospital as a nurse near one of the airfields, Hickam. Once she left, Dave heard a rustling outside; he grabbed a bat and went out. Once outside he saw a little Japanese kid with a little boar in his hand. The kid said puppy, puppy and Dave knew he was talking about the boar. He didn't want to hurt his feelings by telling him that was not a puppy, but then a bigger boar came out. He made the kid put down the baby boar before he hurt, and he picked up the now crying kid back into his house.
Once inside he saw the boar go away and the kid's mother come shouting, Aki, her child's name. Dave invited her in and they started to talk about, Aki. She then invited Dave to her house. Then he started to get "emotional" because he started to remember about New York.
The day after that, he woke up to the sound of planes. Aki came shouting planes up the hill separating their houses. Aki's mother came out and told Dave to come into the house and hide, but Dave said no and went to look for his mom. During the time he tried to get to where his mom is, the planes were bombing the harbor and destroying the airplanes before they even started up the engine. They also fired at civilians and bombed the whole area. The whole island was surprised. When Dave got to the hospital where his mom worked, he was relieved to see her. She put him to work instantly. The whole hospital was filled with injured people from the attack. Even the kitchen was filled with people. It took three days until they were done.
In the end all of the main characters survived, but all their lives has changed.

RJ #11 11-15-11

    Dear Julio,

I have finished reading the book The Real Benedict Arnold. It seems more like a biography than a memoir, but the library told me it was a memoir.  Benedict Arnold was a American Rebel leader during the Revolutionary War. He then became a traitor. Historians think this because Congress nor almost all of his coworkers during the war disliked him or discredited him.
Benedict Arnold was born on 1741. He was born to a rich family with a honorable family name. His only living sibling was his sister, Hannah. He attended school, and his plan was to go to a good school like Yale. There has always been uncertainty how Benedict looked or acted like.
In 1754, The French and Indian War started. This war between the French and English. This caused his father, a sailor, to have troubles trading. This stopped Arnold from going to school. After his mother died in 1759 by an unknown illness. After that, Benedict's father was arrested for being drunk. That was a big deal during this time because the main religion was Christianity. That means that drinking was illegal. If you did drink you would have to go to the church.
During this time, the Arnold family was in a financial crisis. Benedict had to sell his property and start off new. He opened a store. It was called B. Arnold Druggist Book Seller, Ect. From London Sibi Totique. Sibi totquw in latin means for himself and for all. When he started to earn a profit he was rising in the ranks of the town. A person he knew invited him to the Freemasons. This organization was to bring peace to the world. It was a very secretive group.
In the 1760s, Great Britain kept making acts that made the American people pay extra taxes for The French and Indian War. This made colonists mad, and some started a rebellion. On one day there were protesters in the street that were harassing British troops. The British troops then opened fire and killed several people. This became known as the Boston Massacre.
After that the war for independence really started. First the British wanted to take a weapons area but people from the militia made them retreat. Benedict then joined the war to glorify his family name again after what had happened to his dad. Even though he wanted to do this, he was very kind to the  troops he commanded. If they were running out of food, he would use his own money to buy food for them. He would also encourage his troops to fight and would walk next to them during hard times. Even though he does this many other commanders took credit form him. Many historians believe they did this because they were jealous of his success. The add to that, they even told Congress lies that he doesn't fight, but he charges into battle unlike mast of them. Congress believed them and disliked Benedict. After many years of battling and lies about him, Benedict decided to join the British instead. He thought that the British would respect him more.
He died on June 14, 1801. Many Americans despised him for being a traitor, but no could say he wasn't a great commander.

Title:A legacy of service: Three generations of Pines family have served in military
Author: Perry Stein
Source: The Miami Herald
The topic of the article is Bolivar Perez-Rio's family has three generations of service men.
The main idea of the article is: that Bolivar's grandchildren and children have served in the armed forces. This is stated.(implied/stated)
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform the reader about Bolivar's military roots and why his children are or were in the military.
The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because he talks about Bolivar's history in the military.
The pattern of organization of the article is in chronological order.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is because he is talking about Bolivar today on Veterans Day. He then explains his military career.
The text features included in the article are:Pictures. Pictures helps by showing how Bolivar looks like. Quotes, these help by telling how Bolivar feels.Lastly, are captions for the picture. This helps by telling what the picture is showing.
This article is about (a summary in your own words) Bolivar Perez-Rios is a army veteran. He was in service during WWII through 1941-1949. In France, he deactivated mines but one blew up. He was injured. His son's and there son's are now in the military, too. Bolivar is now 92 years old.
The significance (importance) of this article is that it was Veterans Day yesterday, and Bolivar a military roots.
What I learned from this article is that there is a person named Bolivar Perez-Rios. He is a WWII veteran, and he was injured by a landmine. His children and grandchildren were in the military, too.
What I liked about this article is that it is very informative and fits well for Veterans Day. Especially the Bolivar's successor's were in the army, too.
What I did not like about it is that it does not talk more about Bolivar's sons.
Who should read this article and why  Anybody who respects veterans or service men or women should read this article. I think this because it is about a veteran and his son and his grandson that are also veterans.
This article reminds me of (text-to-self)my grandfather and grandmother. They are both worked in the army. My grandfather was a missile operator. My grandmother made submarines.
(text-to-text) This reminds me of the book Scat. In the book a boy has a injured dad who was a soldier in Iraq. His arm was hurt very badly while he was in a HUMVEE that was hit by a RPG.
(text-to-world)This reminds me of my dad's barber. He was a veteran in WWII, too. He works in Miami and just turned 90 years old. His shop is called Barons.
New vocabulary I learned
Word Context Clues Meaning
1. isthmus- a narrow strip of land connecting two pieces of land
2.mementos- a reminder

RJ # 10 11-7-11

      Dear Madison,

I have finished reading the short story, Split Cherry Tree. It is about a boy named Dave. He is a high school student and is the first one in his family to reach high school. The story doesn't say, but I think it is in the south because of the accent used.
He has to go to get a lizard for a project, but five other kids see it one all of them including Dave and go up a Cherry tree and it brakes. The farmer makes them pay a dollar each, but Dave doesn't have a dollar. His teacher, Professor Herbert, makes him work in school like sweeping the floors and cleaning the windows to make him pay for the money owed. An hour a quarter for two days. Dave says no. He says that he has to help his father at the farm. He asks if there is a quicker punishment. Professor Herbert says no.
After two hours of cleaning, Dave rushes home to help his dad. Dave's dad is a farmer with a southern accent and wears wore out clothes. He is tall and has a really dark tan from working in the sun. When Dave gets home he sees his dad doing his work. He quickly tells his dad to let him do it. His dad asks him where he has been and Dave tells the whole story. His dad decides to go to school with him tomorrow and give the teacher a piece of his mind. He thinks just because the other kids had the money but Dave didn't, he has to work is not fair. Dave's dad did not have to learn about bugs or animals in the time when he went to school. He thinks that it is weird.
When Dave and his dad arrive at school, they go to Professor Herbert's office. Then Dave's dad pulls out a gun and points it at the professor while on the table. The professor gets nervous and he starts to explain why Dave stayed late. They continued chatting until class has to start. Dave's dad puts away the gun and they start to become friendly with each other. When the professor talked about germs, Dave;s dad didn't believe him because he never saw one. Professor Herbert told him that he will show him some. They are even in the scum in his teeth. Dave's dad follows him to all his classes and when they were in biology class or Professor Herbert's subject he shows Dave's dad germs in the microscope from a sample of dirt from his teeth. Dave's dad is amazed.
When school is over Dave starts to clean but the professor says he closed the dept. He goes to his dad and he asks why isn't he doing the work. Dave tells him and the go see Professor Herbert. Dave's dad insists because he believes in earning things. They work an hour each totaling in two hours and go home.
At home, Dave's dad tells his wife about everything he has learned today. He says that things have changed so much from the time he was in school to now.
I think the moral of this story is that things don't stay the same all the time. I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars but it says "I says" a lot which isn't correct grammar. With that said, I would rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

RJ #9 10-31-11

     Dear Maria,

I have finished reading the book M Is for Magic by Neil Gaiman. It is a short story book because I thought last week was short story. The stories I will be talking about is "The Price" and "Instructions".
"The Price" is about a person(The narrator. He writes I for the person.) owning some stray cats. He would take cats in and take care of them if they were in need. One day he found a black cat. He called it Black Cat. It seemed perfectly healthy. When he went on a trip and came back, he saw the black cat was scratched and bleeding. It had a torn ear and the bottom lip was torn and infected. He took it to the vet and took care of it. The next day the cat was hurt even more. He decided to put it in the basement. The day after that, he sent his daughter to a camp. The daughter was sending postcards to him to get her out. Many postcards will arrive at a day. Also, his son had a big fight with his best friend and now they would not talk. The man heard the cat pleading to get out the basement, so he let it out. He stayed awake to see what was hurting Black Cat. He waited all night and then he saw something after one of his cats got scared of something. He saw it was the Devil coming down the road. He was scared then the Black Cat got up not as powerful as it used to be, still fought the Devil. After a while the Devil ran away. The next day the persons daughter said she could survive a few more days in the camp, and his son said the he figured out the problem with his friend. The person never knew what the problem was. He thought about Black Cat. He selfishly and scared he wondered how much more it can give.
"Instruction" is about all the stories in the book in a four page(not front and back) poem.It is the last story. It is says go through a door a wooden gate you never saw before. Go through after saying please. If there is a creature and it is hungry, feed it, if it is dirty, clean it, if it is hurt, try to soothe it. Go on a path until you see a old lady under a tree. Give her what she wants. You will arrive at a castle with three princesses. Don't trust the youngest one. Next you will arrive at a meeting of the seasons. If you ask politely. December may give you strawberries in its frost. When you are done with this adventure, you will arrive where you started, but it will seem it much smaller. Then go home. Or make a home. Or rest. It is very touching if you read the book. Hope you enjoyed.

       Dear reader,

I have finished reading Masterpiece By Elise Broach. It is a great book that will keep you excited. I t is about a stolen art piece.
There was once a beetle name Marvin. He had a big family and live in the Pompaday's apartment in New York City. The Pompaday's had a son named James. He was not cared about unless he did something extraordinary. On his 11th birthday, he got a ink set from his dad (He had a step-dad. This was his real dad, and he liked him more.) who is a artist. On the night of James' birthday, Marvin went into James' room and saw the ink set. The lid was open, so he decided to draw what was outside the window.
When he finished it was almost morning. James saw the drawing and he was amazed. He saw Marvin and he knew he drew it. When his mom came in she saw the picture and said it was beautiful. She thought James drew it and she was bragging about him to her clients. Then when James' dad saw it, he took James (Marvin was in James' sweater)and the picture to a museum and showed it to the owner. The owner wanted James (or Marvin)  to copy a picture because there was four pictures in the set and three was stolen. They have the remaining one. Marvin copied it and then the owner set a plan to sell it in the black-market and the person who has the rest will take it( Because who doesn't want a set?). They will have a tracking device on the matting of the picture.
When they sold it they noticed it was the real one and Marvin followed it by grabbing on to the picture. Then it arrived at the person's apartment which turned out to be James' dad's friend! Marvin figured a way to tell James and they got all four pictures back safely back to the museum. This book is based off a real story but the characters are fake.

         Dear whoever is reading this,

I have finished reading Isaac Newton Discovering Laws That Govern the Universe. It is about Isaac Newton (Who else?). It talks about his life and all the improvements in science he made. Some facts about Sir Isaac Newton was that he worked hard, sometimes left food without eating it and falling asleep while working for hours on end. He had a cat that got fat because it ate Isaac's untouched food.
In December 25, 1642, Isaac Newton ws born(on Christmas, too! Must have been a nice gift.). He would become the most important scientist in the 1600s. In his young age, he was fasinated by machines. During that time, people still belived in witches and magic. Isaac was a shy and was teased in school, but one day he out smarted a bully and gave him a bloody nose. Everyone now respected him.
In June, 1661, now eighteen Newton enters a very good school, called Cambridge University. He does many expirements and find many discoveries there. He is happy until The Great Plague broke out. This was a devestating plague that killed millions of people in Eroupe. He moved back to his mom's house and lived there doing his expirements. When Cambridge was safe again he returned.
In October, 1669, Issac Newton becomes a math professor in Cambridge Univeristy. At 26 years old, he is the youngest person to teach there. Three years later he is invited to the Royal Society, a group of senior scientists. He quickly and excitedly accepts.
In March, 1696, Isaac Newton is invited to work at the Royal Mint, the place where they made coins/money. Three years later he becomes the master of the Royal Mint. Nine years after that he is knighted. That is why people call him "Sir" Isaac Newton.
In March 20, 1727, Sir Isaac Newton dies at age 84. He is buried like king. He has the same ceremonies and is buried with them.
Now I will say what he has invented or discovered. 1664, Newton expirements with light and finds that light is made of different colours. He is also the first to separted and put together light again. In 1670 to 1671, Isaac makes the reflectiong telescope. Hoped you learned  a lot.

      Dear Daniel,

Today I have finished reading Born To Fly. This is an autobiography of Shane Osborn. He had always wanted to become a pilot and he did but something unexpected happened.
This is about a person named Shane Osborn and he wanted to fly since he was three. He wanted to fly ever since his neighbor took him on a ride in his airplane. He was born in a farm land in South Dakota. His mother and father divorced, so his mom and sister moved to Norfolk, Nebraska. His mom got three jobs just to keep up with money needed. In middle school Shane Osborn went into the Civil Air Patrol. This is a program that teaches kids about planes and lets them fly one. Shane earns 16 hour of flight tme and his time in Civil Air Patrol ended at the beginning of high school.
In high school, he worked extra hard. After that he went to University of Nebraska. He went into the NJROCT or Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He graduated and then went to report to San Diego to have a 30 day cruise on the U.S.S Kitty Hawk. There he watch planes take off and land on the carrier. After he reported to Pensacola, Florida. There his real training begins. Only 50% of the class passes for this class of about physical and mental endurance. After a few months he passed. Later he trained to become a fighter pilot. He passed, but then when he did all the fighter pilot slots were full. He decided to change to an surveillance airplane the P-3C. He had to train for this airplane, too. He had to learn all the wiring and hydraulics on this over 100 feet long plane. Eventually he did. After many missions he was stationed in a island near Japan. He flew missions close to the Chinese border in the ocean while Chinese fighters harassed them.
One day, a Chinese fighter got too close to the planes propeller and was cut into two. A propeller was lost and they were losing air speed. Shane used all his skills he learned and landed in a Chinese airbase were he was captured. They asked why they destroyed their airplane. All the crew members said they didn't destroy it, the plane got too close. After months of interrogation they were finally released when America interrogations to get them back worked. Back, Shane Osborn received the Medal of Honor.

         Dear Lucky,

I have finished reading the book Canadian Ghost Stories. It is by Barbara Smith. She has made multiple ghost books in her work. My opinion about this book is good. The only thing bad about it is that it gets mundane when you get to the end.
This book has sections in sections. What I mean is that there are stories in the chapters. The chapter name tells you what the stories are going to be about. My two favorite stories that I read this time (this is my second RJ for this book.) are titled Ghostly Queen and still Ghostly Smoker.
Ghostly Queen is about a lady named Kate, that has a boyfriend named Pantages. The lady that comes to be known as "Kate, Queen of the Klondike". She gives money to her boyfriend to make a theater called Dawson City show place. They make it but the boyfriend finds another person to be with. Kate was depressed. When she dies, she then comes back and haunts the theater. What I like about this story is that the ghost was actually kind for once. The employees who work there are not afraid of her.
Ghostly Smoker is about a person who makes moonshine , or a type of illegal alcohol, that could kill. People would get sick if they drank it. Smoker was the person's nickname. He evaded the police for a few years. Finally, they caught him. He died in jail of old age right after he prayed if he could undo his wrong doings. Smoker's ghost help people by getting them out of snow storms to a fur traders house. One time he brought two police men to the house. When the cops saw him the shouted and waved but nothing happened. They decided to follow Smoker. When they arrived at the fur traders house they asked who was that. The fur trader said it was Smoker.

     Dear Mrs. Prince,

The book I am reading right now is called Canadian Ghost Stories by Barba Smith. She is a radio host and is interested in ghosts. She collects stories by people who call her radio station. I  am not done reading this book. I started in the middle of last week.
There a many stories in this book. The one that interests me the most is titled Titanic. It is about a reason of why the Titanic sunk. We all know that it hit an iceberg, but what made it hit it? This story is about a cursed mummy that brings bad luck, and was in the Titanic in its first voyage. The mummy was sold to someone and the seller died soon after. The person would not accept it was cursed. When his two friend die, he gave it to the museum. When a photographer took a picture of it he died soon, too. Then the museum decided to take it far away. They put it in the Titanic to ship to America. Then when the Titanic set off, it hit the iceberg near Canada.
Another one that interests me is about a ghost that saves lives. The ghost was a moonshiner in Canada. A moonshiner is a person who makes moonshine or an illegal alcohol. His moonshine was so dangerous that it killed. It would make you sick. This moonshiner's nickname was Smoker. The police found him and after a long time evading police, he was put in jail. His lasts words were asking God if he could redo what he has done. Then he died.
Once, two police man got lost in a snow storm. Then they saw this figure in the snow. They tried to get its attention , but it didn't work. So instead they followed it. They arrived at a fur trader‘s house and went inside. They ask the fur trader who the figure was. The fur trader said it was Smoker.
These are two of my favorite stories. Hoped you enjoyed them.

Reader's Journal #3

     Dear Julio,

Today I am posting my blog for Warriors Sunset. the author for this book is Erin Hunter. This is the last book in this series. It is about Clans or groups of cats facing danger.
There are many characters in this book. The main characters are Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, and Leafpool. Squirrelflight and Leafpool are sisters. They can sense how each one is feeling. Brambleclaw has a brother in another Clan, Riverclan. His name is ,Hawkfrost. Their father, Tigerstar, would kill any cat for power. They have dreams where Tigerstar would teach them how to rule all the Clans. Tigerstar wants revenge because he died without gaining power.
The setting is around a lake. There is moorland and forest surrounding it. There is also a island in the middle. There, the cats have peaceful meetings and talk about news. They get there but crossing a tree that has fallen down. The four Clans are located around the lake. Windclan is in the moorland and the rest of the Clans are in the forest. The other names of the Clans are Thunderclan, Riverclan, and Shadowclan. They all have boundaries and territories.
The plot of this book is that Leafpool received a prophecy from Starclan ,which is like Heaven for cats. It is Before there is peace, blood will spill blood and the lake will run red. Brambleclaw becomes deputy, and then meets with Hawkfrost knowing little that it was a trap for his leader, Firestar. Firestar got in a fox trap and Brambleclaw is faced with the decision for power or loyalty. He chose loyalty and used the stick in the ground for the fox trap and stabbed it in Hawkfrost's throat while in battle. Hawkfrost's blood as in blood brother, got spilled and then the blood went into the lake.
My favorite part was when Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost were fighting. This was the battle between good and evil. My least favorite part was when Brambleclaw met Tigerstar in his dreams. He was becoming the antagonist. My opinion about this book is that anybody who likes cats, adventure, and action will enjoy this book.

Reader's Journal #2

Dear who ever is reading this,

The book that I am reading right now is Warriors Twilight. It is the next book in the Warriors Series I am reading. Made by Erin Hunter, the Warriors books have many series. This is the second series. The Warriors books are about cats that are in four different clans and they sometimes fight.
The main characters are Brambleclaw, Leafpool, and Squirrelflight. Leafpool and Squirrelflight are sisters. They have a special connection. They can feel how the other one is feeling. There are four Clans. ThunderClan, Windclan, Riverclan, and Shadowclan. All the main characters are in Thunderclan.
The setting is a lake with moorland, forests and a island in the middle. In the forests, the Clans of Thunderclan, Riverclan, and Shadow clan live there. In the moorland, Windclan lives there. Each Clan is serperated by landmarks. The island is where they meet. They get there by a fallen tree.
I don't really know the plot yet as I have not finished the book yet. All I know is that Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight becomes friends again after a attack in the end of the last book.
I don't know or have the resolution, personal opinions, or have any favorite parts or least favorite parts at the moment because as I have said I did not finish the book yet.

Reader's Journal 1

        Dear Mrs. Zhrihen,

I just finished reading the book Warriors: Twilight by: Erin Hunter! This book is part of a big series that talks about a lot of cats that have to move because construction is destroying their homes. This is the fifth out of six books in this series. It is a great book. I highly recommend it.
There are many characters in this book. They are divided into four clans, Thunderclan, Windclan, Riverclan, and Shadowclan. The main cats in this book is Squirrelflight, Leafpool, and Brambleclaw. All from Thunderclan. Squirrelflight is Leafpools sister. They have a special connection which makes them feel how to other one is felling.
The setting of this book is in a forest and moorland around a lake with an island in the middle. The forest holds the clans of Thunderclan, Riverclan, and Shadowclan. The Moorland holds the clan of Windclan.  The setting is very realistic
The plot is that Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw get into a fight and they lose their friendship. Also another thing happening is that there will be an attack on all clans but no one knows. Another thing happening is that another cat called Crowfeather, is in love with Leafpool, but they are in different clans. They decide to run away but there is trouble with the clans so they come back and help. A lot of plots for one book.
The main conflict is that there is going to be an attack. All four clans don't know. When they attack it devastated all the clans.Only the medicine cats had visions about it but didn't know how to interpret them. In the end one of them died.
The resolution is that the cats fought off the enemy. And the medicine cats began to heal the wounded.
I think this is a very good book for whoever likes cats and action. Also for people who like suspense and very detailed books. I feel sad that some cats died in the battle. I am also surprised that an old cat, named Stromfur, that chose to be left behind came back.
My favorite part is when the battle was over and when Stormfur came back. It was surprising that the cat came back and it was very detailed at the end of the battle.
My least favorite part is when one of the medicine cats died. It was very sad.
